About
In the days of SNES, HAL was just a small company that made games for
any publisher interested. However, things started coming close for Nintendo
and HAL, until the point where HAL became a part of Nintendo's in-house
developers themselves, alongside EAD, NCL and NST, but still a separate
2nd party developer. This means HAL makes games of Nintendo license, and
their first N64 game was Smash Brothers, which was a huge hit. They are
also behind the Pokemon games for the N64, under directions and designs
of Game Freak and Creatures.HAL isn't known for making acclaimed Nintendo
games such as Mario, Zelda, Wave Race, etc., but is capable of developing
highly hyped Nintendo franchises such as Kirby and Smash Brothers. However,
their games, even the small ones, seemed to take ages, and their games
are more of a 'franchise sidekick' (such as Mario Tennis or Mario Golf),
rather than whole new, incredible games Nintendo is known for.Their own
series, Earthbound or Mother, was also a hyped game for the N64. Overall,
they are capable of delivering franchise sidekicks but nothing amazing
and innovative. |
Strengths
Works under supervision of Nintendo. This means none of their games will
be a failure.
Their games sell like crazy in Japan, although this is due to the Nintendo
franchise.
|
Weaknesses
Seems to take forever to make games.
Don't expect them to come up with something amazing or innovative.
It's a bit of a pity when you hear about their games, you instantly think
Nintendo made it.
They could never make something like Zelda or Mario. Never.
Their games are too kiddy, and none are deep or mesmerising.
|
Relationship With Nintendo
They are like a part of Nintendo, and will remain that way. |
Most Recent Titles
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. |
Confirmed NGC Titles
None, but you can be quite definite about them bringing wacky Nintendo
franchise side-games to the Gamecube, as well as hopefully Earthbound. |
