About
Factor 5 is a 3rd party developer... but for Nintendo only basically.
Factor 5 is considered half 2nd-party developer, because it makes games
for Nintendo only, however is not funded or contracted with Nintendo in
any way, and they are in a way partnered with Lucas Arts for its Star Wars
titles. They choose to develop for Nintendo only. They have also produced
a program called MuSyx, a program that allows reasonable amount of voice
in an space-lacking N64 cartridge. This can be seen used in Rogue Squadron,
and Nintendo has purchased the right to use this program in their games
and is used in Pokemon Stadium and other non-Nintendo games. Factor 5 amazed
N64 owners with the visual of Rogue Squadron, and it was considered one
of the best N64 titles of '98. The visuals they can achieve was clearly
shown in the Star Wars demo at Spaceworld... have you heard any site say
that wasn't incredible? In fact, how many times have i read about editors
thiniking it looked like it was right out of the original Star Wars movie?
Also, IGNcube seemed quite impresed with the behind-the-scenes footage
of Thornado... even though they didn't show us a single screenshot or a
movie! However, I'm quite positive Thornado will be nothing short of visually
spectacular... when they can achieve great graphics on N64, and a Star
Wars demo like that on NGC, why wouldn't it be so? |
Strengths
They don't fail to deliver amazing visuals and sound effects. Their sound
quality is second to none.
They capture the Star Wars feeling very well when they want to.
They concentrate very much on 1 or 2 projects only at a time.
Out of all the LucasArts partners, Factor 5 makes the best Star Wars flight
games.
|
Weaknesses
Their games aren't absolutely addictive or ground-breaking.
The small amounts of projects they work on may frustrate some people.
They aren't too well known, most people didn't even know who made Rogue
Squadron and what games they have made.
|
Relationship With Nintendo
Very good, this can be seen in the fact that Factor 5 chooses to develop
for Nintendo only, without any funding by Nintendo or contracts. |
Most Recent Titles
Star Wars: Epsode 1: Battle For Naboo, Indiana Jones and the Infernal
Machine. |
Confirmed NGC Titles
Thornado, and it's obvious they are making Rogue Squadron 2... even
though LucasArts denied it. |
