About
Every Nintendo fan by now would know that this 2nd party developer
is meant to be hugely talented, and is considered to become 'the Rareware
of USA'. This is a new development house, founded by ex-Iguana president
Jeff Spangenberg, and a huge host of talented individuals from ID, Valve,
and Iguana to name a few. This company, that Nintendo chose to purchase
as a 2nd party developer from the beginning, is funded by Nintendo and
lies within well-advanced, huge facilities in Austin, Texas. They are known
to be underway with 5 Gamecube titles, one of them being Metroid 4. Now,
what's this? Metroid 4? I'm sure many people will be worried that this
isn't being made by Nintendo, and many will think it might lose the 'Nintendo
feel' of the game. I'm kinda worried too...
However, think about it this way: why the hell would Nintendo give
them the license of such a popular franchise (and i mean popular) if they
weren't so talented? Yep, this means Retro is hugely talented. Another
huge relief for Metroid fans is the fact that Miyamoto will be looking
into this project and help them out with suggestions ingredients.
I just hope it doesn't lose the Nintendo feel of the game... |
Strengths
Has a host of some of the most talented individuals in the gaming industry.
Athough they haven't made any games yet, the individuals sure have.
Strongly funded by Nintendo, and if Nintendo believes they are good, they
are good.
They say they like having more time making games than average developers,
which is a good thing.
They have been working on Gamecube projects ever since 1999 I believe,
which means they could be adding 5 completely different genres to Nintendo's
launch list or by christmas, or a bit later even, to add variety and quality.

Weaknesses
They haven't made any games yet, and they could turn out to be a miserable
company! |
Relationship With Nintendo
Let's say it this way... they like each other. They like each other
a lot. Nintendo like Retro so much that they fund them themselves and is
giving them the Metroid license... and why would Retro have a problem with
that? |
